Ravichandran Ashwin's three-wicket haul dealt a significant blow to Bangladesh's efforts in their daunting 515-run chase on day three of the first Test against India, leaving the visitors at 158/4 by the end of the day's play.

Jasprit Bumrah struck early, removing Zakir Hasan for 33 with a spectacular catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal. Despite a resilient start by openers Shadman Islam and Zakir, Ravichandran Ashwin began dismantling the lineup, dismissing Shadman for 35 and later taking the prized wicket of Mominul Haque. Bangladesh was 124/3 at this stage.

The veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim also fell victim to Ashwin, leaving Bangladesh in a precarious position at 146/4. With Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan fighting on, bad light ended the day's play, with Bangladesh needing 357 more runs to secure an improbable victory.
