Siya Kolisi Returns to Sharks After Leaving Racing 92
South African rugby captain Siya Kolisi has decided to leave French club Racing 92 after one season to return to the Sharks in Durban. He cited concerns over his physical health and balancing international duties with club commitments. Kolisi previously played for the Sharks before joining Racing 92.
South Africa's rugby captain Siya Kolisi has officially ended his tenure with French club Racing 92, opting to rejoin the Sharks in Durban. He confirmed the move after just one season with Racing 92, during which he struggled with injuries and found it difficult to balance club and international duties.
Kolisi shared his sentiments in an interview with French daily L'Equipe, stating, 'We reached an agreement with the club. I am grateful for the way they handled the situation.' He elaborated that playing for the national team while being part of Racing 92 left him feeling like he was not fully committed to his club obligations.
Kolisi, who recently played a crucial role in South Africa's win against New Zealand, emphasized his desire to invest fully in his commitments, whether at the international or club level. 'When they recruited me, they thought they had a full-time Siya Kolisi. But I love playing for South Africa so much, I want to continue with the Springboks,' he said.
