In a dramatic turn of events, six suspects wanted for murder and extortion were fatally shot in a gunfight with South African police late Monday night in Durban. These suspects had been linked to horrific crimes, including triple murders on Friday and the execution-style killing of four individuals on Sunday.
The incident occurred at a rented holiday apartment near Durban's South Beach district, where police tracked the suspects following Sunday's brutal slayings. According to police reports, the suspects ordered their victims to lie face down before shooting them in the back of the head.
The group was also suspected to be involved in the illegal drug trade. Police Minister Senzo Mchunu is expected to address the nation's lawmakers about the growing issue of extortion later today.
