US Open finalist Jannik Sinner will be skipping the Davis Cup Finals group stage next week in Bologna, Italy. The decision comes after his intense match against Taylor Fritz in New York, needing time to rest, according to Italy captain Filippo Volandri.

"In consultation with the federation leaders and his staff, we agreed to relieve Jannik from the call-up and allow him a full recovery," stated Volandri in an official announcement.

The Italian team, led by Matteo Berrettini, will miss the presence of Sinner and Olympic bronze medalist Lorenzo Musetti, who also opted out to rest. The squad includes players like Matteo Arnaldi, Flavio Cobolli, Andrea Vavassori, and Simone Bolelli. Italy, the defending champions, will face Brazil, Belgium, and the Netherlands next week. Group play continues in Valencia, Zhuhai, and Manchester, with the top two teams advancing to the finals in Malaga.
