British teenager Oliver Bearman is set to replace Kevin Magnussen at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the Haas team announced on Friday. Bearman, originally signed to race for Haas in 2025, is stepping in early due to Magnussen's suspension for accumulating too many penalty points.
Bearman, who typically competes in Formula 2, delivered an impressive performance in his Formula 1 debut for Ferrari in March, finishing seventh at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after Carlos Sainz Jr. was sidelined with appendicitis. "It's definitely more of a challenge stepping in to race as a reserve driver, with limited prep-time and so on, but I'm in the fortunate position of having done it earlier in the year with Scuderia Ferrari, so I can at least call on that experience," Bearman said in a Haas statement.
Bearman, a rising star and Ferrari academy driver, is one of two reserve drivers at Haas. The other, Pietro Fittipaldi, will be occupied with an IndyCar race next week in Nashville.
