The triumphant Indian hockey team, having clinched a bronze medal in Paris and ending a four-decade drought, is now setting its sights on gold at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, according to ace goalkeeper P R Sreejesh. The former national team captain, who announced his retirement following the Paris Olympics, expressed these ambitions while speaking in Bihar's capital.
Sreejesh highlighted the positive developments in Bihar, notably at the Rajgir sports complex, which now boasts an astro turf and will host the women's Asian Cup Trophy tournament later this year. 'I see no reason why Bihar can't become the next sports hub of the country,' he commented, adding that he was impressed by initiatives like the establishment of a sports university.
As the new coach for the junior men's hockey team, Sreejesh is drawing inspiration from former cricket team captain Rahul Dravid and is focused on the next Asia Cup. Reflecting on his journey, Sreejesh, also known as 'The Great Wall of Indian Hockey,' expressed optimism about India's hockey prospects and emphasized the importance of managing pressure in competitive sports.
