Rahul Dravid, former Indian captain and head coach, is set to return to Rajasthan Royals (RR) as head coach for the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the franchise revealed on Friday. Dravid, known for his earlier stint with RR from 2011-2015, has signed a multi-year contract.
Dravid's illustrious tenure with Team India ended recently on a high note as he led the team to clinch the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating South Africa. During his time as a Royals player from 2011-2013, Dravid scored 1,276 runs in 46 matches at an average of 29.67, with seven half-centuries.
CEO of Royals Sports Group, Jake Lush McCrum, expressed excitement about Dravid's return, citing his profound impact on Indian cricket and his deep-rooted connection to the franchise. Dravid, thrilled to be back, emphasized his readiness to take the team to new heights, working closely with Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara.
