The Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship kicked off with strong performances from defending champions Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) and Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), who both registered commanding wins on Thursday.
The first upset of the tournament was recorded when Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) triumphed over a seasoned All India Police Sports Control Board team with a 2-1 victory. Abdul Qadir and Alok Kandulna scored for SPSB, while Simranjit Singh managed a lone goal for AISCP.
PSPB overwhelmed Central Secretariat 5-0 in their Pool A match, with notable goals from Talwinder Singh, Armaan Qureshi, Rosan Minz, and Shilanand Lakhra. Meanwhile, RSPB blanked Sports Authority of Gujarat - Hockey Academy with a staggering 13-0 scoreline in Pool B.
