In an impressive comeback, unseeded Czech player Karolina Muchova stormed into the U.S. Open semi-final after defeating Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-1 6-4 on Wednesday. The match represented only her sixth tournament back following a wrist injury sustained at the 2023 U.S. Open.

Muchova, who returned to the courts in June, required medical treatment multiple times during the second set but ultimately managed to overpower the Brazilian 22nd seed in 85 minutes. The game had its unusual moments, with Muchova experiencing some physical issues but maintaining her focus to secure the win.

The first set saw Muchova take a commanding 4-0 double break lead before wrapping up the set on serve. Although Haddad Maia improved in the second set, Muchova held her ground, ultimately sealing the match with an ace. Haddad Maia had her own struggles, requiring medical attention late in the match. Muchova, who has not dropped a set in this year's final Grand Slam, will face either top seed Iga Swiatek or American sixth seed Jessica Pegula in the semi-final.
