Indian shuttlers Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manisha Ramadass ended their Paralympics campaign with historic silver and bronze medals in the women's singles SU5 category on Monday.
The 22-year-old Thulasimathi, who was the number one seed, put up a valiant effort but eventually lost 17-21, 10-21 to China's defending champion Yang Qiuxia in the final. Playing simultaneously on the adjacent court, second seed Manisha outclassed Denmark's third-seeded Cathrine Rosengren 21-12, 21-8 to secure the bronze medal.
The SU5 category caters to athletes with upper limb impairments. The achievements of Thulasimathi and Manisha contribute to India's growing accolades in badminton, following Nitesh Kumar's gold in the SL3 category at the Paris Paralympics.
