NorthEast United FC have made history by winning their first-ever Durand Cup, clinching the 133rd edition with a dramatic comeback at Salt Lake Stadium. The team overcame defending champions Mohun Bagan SG in a penalty shootout to claim the prestigious trophy.

Highlander's head coach Juan Pedro Benali revealed that the players felt nervous at the start but managed to turn the game around with resilience and strategic execution. 'We're still in the cloud. We don't believe it yet. But NorthEast is a champion now,' said Benali.

Despite being down two goals in the first half, NorthEast equalized through Alaaeddine Ajaraie and Guillermo Fernandez. Goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh then became the hero, saving two key spot kicks to secure the victory. Players Guillermo Fernandez, Michel Zabaco, Parthib Gogoi, and Alaaeddine Ajaraie successfully converted their penalties while Mohun Bagan could only convert three out of five.
