Wallabies Clinch Nail-Biting Win With Late Penalty
Australia captain Harry Wilson is optimistic about the Wallabies' future after a thrilling 20-19 win over Argentina in La Plata during the Rugby Championship. Ben Donaldson's last-minute penalty broke the deadlock, giving Joe Schmidt's team their first victory of the season and boosting team morale.
Australia captain Harry Wilson is upbeat about the Wallabies' prospects following a dramatic 20-19 victory over Argentina in the Rugby Championship held in La Plata on Saturday. Ben Donaldson's last-moment penalty secured Joe Schmidt's squad their first win of the season after earlier defeats by South Africa.
"It gives us a lot more confidence," said Wilson, captaining the Wallabies for the first time. "We're a young group and we've been building since the start of the year. We showed some good play against the Boks, but we didn't get the results there as they're the best in the world."
The win, achieved in challenging weather conditions, marked Australia's first Rugby Championship victory since August 2022. Despite the triumph, Schmidt's side remains at the bottom of the standings. "It was a stressful last few minutes, but I love how composed we were," Wilson added. Schmidt echoed the sentiment, saying, "I'm just really delighted for the boys. They found a way to win."
