Interim England manager Lee Carsley unveiled his first squad on Thursday, featuring uncapped talents Angel Gomes, Tino Livramento, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Noni Madueke.
Following Gareth Southgate's resignation, Carsley has taken the helm, leaving out seasoned players like defender Kyle Walker and injured Luke Shaw and Jude Bellingham. Notable omissions also include striker Ivan Toney and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, while familiar faces like Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire make a return.
Trent Alexander-Arnold remains in his usual defensive spot, in contrast to his Euro 2024 midfield role. Carsley, familiar with the young inclusions from his England Under-21 tenure, stressed the importance of injecting fresh blood into the squad while acknowledging their commendable past performances.
Veteran Kieran Trippier announced his international retirement just before the squad's reveal. Highlighting his approach, Carsley emphasized the need for a well-coordinated team and staff understanding his methodology and the fast-paced nature of international football.
England is set to face Ireland in Dublin on Sept. 7 and Finland at Wembley three days later in the Nations League.
