Eddie Dunbar Triumphs in 11th Stage of Vuelta a España

Irish cyclist Eddie Dunbar secured a remarkable victory in the 11th stage of the Vuelta a España on Wednesday. His well-timed attack in the final kilometre left his competition trailing as he triumphed in the mountainous terrain around Padron.

The victory marked a significant milestone for the 27-year-old Jayco AlUla rider, representing his first major success in a Grand Tour. 'It's been a while since I've been in a scenario like this, to be honest,' Dunbar remarked. 'I just used my experience.'

Despite struggling on a major climb, Dunbar's strategic gamble paid off. When he accelerated past the lead group, none of his rivals could keep pace. Overcoming numerous crashes and injuries in recent years, he fended off Quinten Hermans of Alpecin-Deceuninck, who finished second, and Max Poole from Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL, who took third.

'It's incredible. Since the Vuelta last year, I think I've had seven or eight crashes, physically and mentally draining,' Dunbar shared. 'I often doubted my future in the sport.'

Meanwhile, Ben O'Connor retained his overall lead despite a tough day, finishing 42nd, while Primoz Roglic reduced his trailing gap by 37 seconds.
