Following the recruitment of Antonio Lopez Habas, a decorated coach in the Indian Super League, the club has announced the acquisition of Finnish midfielder Joni Kauko, enhancing their roster with high-caliber talent.

Kauko, celebrated for his ISL title win with Mohun Bagan Super Giant, is poised to bring his midfield prowess to Inter Kashi, as the team sets its sights on I-League success. Kauko embarked on his Indian football journey on June 24, 2021, joining MBSG on a two-year contract. His debut, amid a hefty 6-0 defeat to Uzbekistan's Nasaf in the AFC Cup, was far from auspicious, yet he quickly adapted to the Indian Super League's demands.

The Finnish player made his ISL debut against Kerala Blasters on November 19, 2021, and netted his first league goal on February 12, 2022, against NorthEast United FC. His initial season concluded with three goals. However, a severe knee injury during a match against FC Goa in the next season sidelined him for 16 challenging months. Kauko made a remarkable comeback in the 2023-2024 season, replacing Hugo Boumous at Mohun Bagan and scoring a pivotal goal against Chennaiyin FC, contributing to the team's ISL Shield victory.

Last season, Kauko made substantial contributions, featuring in 14 ISL matches with four assists and scoring a goal against NorthEast United FC. His career tally stands at 10 goals in 51 appearances for the Mariners, underscoring his consistent value as a midfielder.
