As Sri Lanka gears up for a crucial three-match Test series against England, interim head coach Sanath Jayasuriya stresses the importance of maintaining a winning mindset. The series kicks off on Wednesday and will conclude on Sunday.

Jayasuriya highlighted the rarity of having this chance, encouraging his players to understand the unique opportunity before them. He acknowledged the difficulty of scoring runs on England's flat pitches, where the ball can still swing or seam.

"I want to make sure there's that hunger. Playing three Tests like this is a rare opportunity. Scoring runs here is challenging, even if the pitches are flat," Jayasuriya told the ICC. He emphasized the need for tactical adjustments to handle the tricky playing conditions.

The interim coach also highlighted the need for key performances from top-order batters, urging them to convert starts into big innings. "We need to fight hard. If three out of seven batters perform, it's crucial they play big innings. Once you get a start, knowing when to quicken or slow down the pace is essential," he added. The second Test is scheduled at Lord's starting August 29, with the final match set for Kennington Oval on September 6.

Facing a formidable England side fresh off a 3-0 sweep against the Windies, Sri Lanka must bring their A-game. The series promises to be a critical challenge as England looks to maintain momentum in the World Test Championship standings.

Sri Lanka squad: Dhananjaya de Silva (C), Dimuth Karunaratne, Nishan Madushka, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (VC), Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Kamindu Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Asitha Fernando, Vishwa Fernando, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara, Nisala Tharaka, Prabath Jayasuriya, Ramesh Mendis, Jeffrey Vandersay, Milan Rathnayake.
