Richardson, born in England, said the decision to compete for Britain was not taken lightly. 'I deeply respect Australia and the Australian cycling team, and it will always be a part of who I am,' Richardson stated.
The British cycling federation welcomed him with a social media post saying, 'Welcome to the team, Matt.'
