Twice MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia clinched a thrilling victory in the Austrian Grand Prix sprint on Saturday, tying on points with Prima Pramac Racing's Jorge Martin at the top of the world championship standings. Six-times MotoGP champion Marc Marquez experienced a crash, adding more drama to the race.

Bagnaia's win at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg brought his total to 250 points, leveling with Martin ahead of Sunday's main race. After clinching pole with a lap record, Martin had a slow start, allowing Bagnaia to take an early lead with aggressive tactics.

Martin incurred a long-lap penalty for failing to slow down after cutting the chicane at turn two, ultimately finishing second. While initially on course for third place, Marquez's crash allowed Bagnaia to open a sizeable gap and secure a commanding victory. Aleix Espargaro finished third, announcing his retirement for the end of the 2024 season.
