The ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Qualifier A kicks off on Saturday in Samoa, offering four teams the chance to advance to the final round. Defending champions Vanuatu are again seen as favorites, but the absence of key players and the synthetic playing surface in Apia could level the playing field.

Vanuatu's captain Josh Rasu is expected to be a standout, both with his batting and off-spin. Rasu, who made headlines with his boundary catch in the last T20 World Cup cycle, will have to adjust strategies due to missing players Patrick Matautaava and Jarryd Allan. The team's best XI also includes six additional bowlers, with Nalin Nipiko emerging as a potential Player of the Tournament.

The Cook Islands, led by Ma'ara Ave, are anticipated to pose a significant challenge. Ave, the Player of the Tournament in 2022, leads a squad that includes the Dickson and Parima brothers and breakout star Liam Denny. The host nations Fiji and Samoa are also undergoing transformations, bringing younger squads and new talents into the fray, including Fiji's Peni Volavola Vuniwaqa and Samoa's new skipper Caleb Jasmat.
