Hideki Matsuyama, Japan's celebrated golfer, experienced a major setback when he and his team were robbed during a stopover in London. The incident occurred as they were en route to the first leg of the PGA Tour playoffs after Matsuyama recently clinched a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
The robbers took Matsuyama's wallet and the passports and visas of his caddie, Shota Hayato, and coach, Mikihito Kuromiya. As a result, both Hayato and Kuromiya have had to return to Japan to have their documents reissued, delaying their travel plans.
Despite these challenges, Matsuyama remains focused on the PGA Tour playoffs, beginning with the Tour Championship scheduled for Aug. 29-Sept. 1. Matsuyama is seen warming up at TPC Southwind in Memphis, preparing for the upcoming rounds. This robbery places additional pressure on Matsuyama as he works to secure his spot in the final tournaments.
