Atletico Madrid has signed Argentine forward Julian Alvarez from Manchester City on a six-year contract, the LaLiga club announced on Monday.
While financial details remain undisclosed by both clubs, British media estimate the deal to be worth 75 million euros ($82 million), along with 20 million euros in potential add-ons.
Alvarez expressed his heartfelt farewell to Manchester City on Instagram. 'Today I say goodbye to this wonderful club with many emotions... I will always be proud to have been part of this family,' he wrote.
The 24-year-old's departure marks a record sale for City, surpassing the 50 million pounds Chelsea paid for Raheem Sterling in 2022. Alvarez, who joined City from River Plate in 2022 for 14 million pounds, scored 36 goals in 103 appearances under Pep Guardiola.
He has won multiple titles with City, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Super Cup, and Club World Cup. Internationally, Alvarez boasts a World Cup title and Copa America win with Argentina.
Atletico manager Diego Simeone has secured his new center forward following Alvaro Morata's transfer to AC Milan last month.
