Belgium's Remco Evenepoel added an Olympic gold medal to his world title in the men's individual time trial at the Paris Games on Saturday. The 24-year-old clocked 36 minutes 12.16 seconds over 32.4km in driving rain, beating Italian Filippo Ganna by 14.92 seconds.
Another Belgian, Wout van Aert, secured bronze. 'It means a lot. The Olympics are every four years, so winning this time, I think at least I ticked that one off,' said Evenepoel, who will also be a top contender in next weekend's road race.
Evenepoel started strongly and led at each checkpoint, riding confidently on wet Parisian roads. 'It is amazing to beat those two legends of cycling,' he said.
