On Saturday, England's batsmen, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook, delivered crucial half-centuries to place their team at a promising 248-3, securing a 207-run lead over West Indies on the third day of the second test at Trent Bridge.

Duckett managed 76, Pope 51, and Brook remained unbeaten at 71, refuting West Indies' earlier advantage secured through a dynamic final-wicket stand of 71, spearheaded by Joshua Da Silva and Shamar Joseph. England's struggle began with opener Zak Crawley's unfortunate run-out but recovered as Duckett struck 11 fours before being trapped lbw by Alzarri Joseph. Pope also made a significant contribution until he was caught at gully off Joseph's bowling.

Brook and Joe Root steadied England's innings with an unbroken partnership of 108, leaving Root not out at 37 by the day's close. England seamer Chris Woakes told the BBC that the day was filled with fluctuating fortunes, underscoring the importance of the final partnership in consolidating England's grip over the game. Although West Indies resumed strongly to finish at 457 all out, noteworthy contributions from their middle and lower order ensured a tight contest still hangs in the balance.
