On Saturday, Sri Lanka and Thailand secured victories in their Women's Asia Cup matches. Thailand faced Malaysia in their Group B game, opting to bat first after winning the toss. Despite initial struggles at 46/3, a crucial partnership between Nannapat Koncharoenkai (40 off 35 balls) and Phannita Maya (29 off 28 balls) rescued Thailand. Late contributions from Suwanan Khiaoto and Rosenan Kanoh propelled Thailand to 133/6 in 20 overs. Mahirah Izzati Ismail shone for Malaysia with a spell of 3/16.

In their run-chase, Malaysia's openers, led by skipper Winifred Duraisingam and Wan Julia, built a strong 68-run stand. However, Thailand's bowlers brought their team back, restricting Malaysia to 111/8. For her decisive knock, Nannapat Koncharoenkai was named 'Player of the Match'.

Meanwhile, in another Group B match, Sri Lanka triumphed over Bangladesh, who chose to bat first but faltered early, reduced to 17/4. Captain Nigar Sultana anchored the innings with an unbeaten 48, helped by Shorna Akter's quickfire 25, setting a total of 111/8. Udeshika Prabodhani and Inoshi Priyadharshani's economical spells kept Bangladesh in check. Sri Lanka's run-chase was spearheaded by Vishmi Gunaratne's 51 and Harshitha Samarawickrama's 33, leading to a comfortable win with 17 balls to spare. Vishmi was awarded 'Player of the Match' for her half-century.

Looking ahead, India is set to face UAE while Nepal will take on Pakistan in their Group A matches on Sunday. (ANI)
