Deepa Malik, India's first woman Paralympic medallist, has been named sub-regional representative for South Asia by the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC). This appointment, confirmed during the 34th Executive Board meeting of the APC, signifies a significant step forward for gender diversity and athlete-centric leadership in para-sports. She will begin her role immediately.

According to a media release, Malik's appointment brings the number of female representatives on the APC Executive Board to five, marking the highest female representation in the organization's history. APC President Majid Rashed highlighted the importance of having more women on the board, particularly individuals with Malik's extensive experience, skills, and wisdom.

Malik's role will involve representing South Asian nations and advocating for the development and promotion of para-sports across the region. Her appointment aligns with the Paralympic Committee of India's mission to foster excellence and inclusivity in para-sports. PCI president Devendra Jhajharia lauded the appointment as a defining moment for Indian Paralympics and expressed confidence in Malik's leadership and the collaborative efforts to promote para-sports in the region.
