Chaos at Copa America Final: Arrests and Security Breaches

Colombia's soccer federation president Ramón Jesurún and his son were among 27 people arrested during the chaotic scenes that unfolded Sunday at the Copa America final between Argentina and Colombia, police confirmed Monday.

According to Miami-Dade police detective Andre Martin, Ramón Jesurún and his son Ramon Jamil Jesurun were detained and charged following the event at Hard Rock Stadium. Specific charges remain undisclosed. Arrest records indicate that Ramon Jamil Jesurun faces three counts of battery on an official.

The Colombian soccer federation did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Associated Press. Ramón Jesurún, 71, who has served as president of the Colombian federation since 2015 and is a vice president of CONMEBOL, released a statement Monday expressing regret over the disorderly conduct of fans. The match, which was delayed by over an hour, saw un-ticketed fans force their way into the venue, causing damage and sparking safety concerns.
