The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, along with three others, on charges of financial misconduct, officials announced on Monday.
Within an hour, CBI officers also detained his security guard and two vendors connected to the hospital where a female medical professional, who was raped and murdered, was found dead on August 9.
The opposition BJP claimed the arrest would expose the TMC government's attempts to destroy evidence and conceal Ghosh's malpractices. Senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh criticized the state health department, under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, for not taking earlier action against Sandip Ghosh, which could have prevented the current embarrassment.
