Former tennis player Mardy Fish birdied nine of his final 13 holes to take a seven-point lead into the final round of the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament.
Scoring an impressive 34-point round at Edgewood Tahoe under the modified Stableford scoring system, Fish reached a cumulative 57 points. Players in this format receive a point for par, three points for a birdie, six points for an eagle, with two points deducted for double bogey or worse.
'It just felt like, today sometimes you have those rounds where you go behind your ball and see the putt right away,' said Fish, the 2020 winner. 'And I had a lot of those today.' NHL player Joe Pavelski is currently in second place with a 29-point day, trailing Fish by seven points.
'You're trying to stay connected to Mardy,' said Dallas Stars forward Pavelski, who is considering retirement after 18 NHL seasons. Carolina Panthers receiver Adam Thielen, the first-round leader just a point ahead of Fish, is now in third place with 45 points after scoring 21 points on the day.
Derek Lowe and Mark Mulder are tied for fourth at 42 points, just one point ahead of former LPGA Tour star Annika Sorenstam. Meanwhile, Charles Barkley sits tied for 52nd with three points following a zero-point day.
