Heimir Hallgrimsson's Appointment Brings Hope for Irish Football Revival

The appointment of Iceland's Heimir Hallgrimsson as Ireland's coach marks a pivotal moment for the beleaguered Irish football team, according to his former coaching partner, Lars Lagerback.

Having led Iceland to historic success including a quarter-final place in Euro 2016 and their first World Cup appearance in 2018, Hallgrimsson is expected to provide the organizational structure that Ireland desperately needs. 'Players buy into the way you want to play when they understand their roles in the team, and I think that is absolutely the most important,' Lagerback told Reuters.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) ended their months-long search for a successor to Stephen Kenny by naming Hallgrimsson on Wednesday. Hallgrimsson, who recently resigned as Jamaica's boss, aims to revive Ireland's glorious football history. Ireland, which stood sixth in FIFA world rankings in 1992, has plummeted to 60th recently.
