Delhi Enveloped in Toxic Smog: A Growing Crisis

Visibility in Delhi plummeted this week, as the Indian capital was blanketed in a toxic concoction of smoke and fog. This environmental crisis arises even before the advent of winter.

Intense smog enveloped Delhi on Wednesday and Thursday, reducing visibility to a range of zero to 50 meters during its peak, with some improvement seen on Thursday. The smog was blamed on a mix of high humidity, low wind speed, and a dip in temperatures.

While weather conditions played a role, pollution further worsened the situation, earning Delhi the dubious title of the world's most polluted capital, according to IQAir. Similar conditions have affected northern India and neighboring Pakistan, with slight improvements expected over the weekend.
