The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its efforts to curb industrial pollution by sealing 84 factories across the city and disconnecting electricity supply to various industrial units that have violated regulations. These actions are part of a comprehensive citywide initiative aimed at regulating illegal operations in non-conforming areas.

Officials have identified 27 non-conforming industrial zones in Delhi, where 70% of plots are designated for industrial use under zoning laws. During inspections in September, 84 units were discovered to be non-compliant, leading to their closure. Further actions are anticipated, particularly in the Rithala area where more violations are expected to be identified soon.

The factories' impact on the Yamuna river remains significant, as they contribute to environmental degradation. Despite ongoing efforts by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, the river is still plagued by untreated waste and pollution. The MCD's crackdown is a significant measure towards the broader objective of cleaning up the Yamuna, in conjunction with Delhi's 35 sewage treatment plants.
