A plane crashed on Catalina Island, off the Southern California coast, Tuesday night near the island's private airport. The exact circumstances of the crash remain unknown, including whether there were any injuries or fatalities.
According to Supervisor Travis White of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the plane went down around 8:30 pm. Catalina Island is situated approximately 25 miles from the mainland south of Los Angeles.
Detective Lar Meyers from the Avalon Sheriff's Station reported that investigators were en route to the scene, which is located near the island's Airport in the Sky. This airport is predominantly used by general aviation aircraft like single-engine planes, boasting a 3,000-foot runway and sitting at an elevation of 1,602 feet.
