In a significant move towards bolstering India's renewable energy landscape, the states of Himachal Pradesh and Telangana have forged a partnership to develop two major hydroelectric projects. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, marking a pivotal moment for state-led energy initiatives.
The projects, a 400 MW Seli and a 120 MW Miyad hydropower plant, will be constructed in Himachal's Lahaul-Spiti district. Executed on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOT) model, these undertakings promise long-term economic and ecological benefits for both states. Sukhu emphasized the strategic use of Himachal's natural resources for state development and energy self-sufficiency.
Vikramarka lauded the collaboration as a testament to federal cooperation and a step towards Telangana's 2025 energy strategy. The agreement underscores a trend towards inter-state partnerships in renewable energy, combining Himachal's hydropower capacity with Telangana's industrial demand. This alliance anticipates fostering investment, job creation, and energy sustainability, potentially inspiring similar endeavors across India.
