Heavy rains have caused severe disruptions in Himachal Pradesh, leading to the closure of 117 roads, according to officials on Friday. The meteorological office has issued warnings of moderate flash flood risks in Shimla and Sirmaur districts until Saturday.

Light rainfall persists in different parts of the state, with Guler recording 64.2 mm, followed by Palampur with 46.4 mm, and Dharamshala with 41 mm since Thursday evening. The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reports that a maximum of 81 roads remain closed in Shimla, with 21 in Mandi, 10 in Kangra, three in Kullu, and one each in Bilaspur and Sirmaur districts.

In addition to road closures, 34 power schemes and 11 water supply schemes have been affected. Since the monsoon season began on June 27, the state has witnessed a rainfall deficit of 20 per cent. Tragically, 165 people have lost their lives due to rain-related incidents, with 30 still missing, and the state has incurred losses estimated at Rs 1,323 crore.
