An elephant was tragically killed due to electrocution in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, according to a forest official.
The incident occurred Wednesday night in Jamsuli village within the Betnoti forest range when a herd of 19 elephants was roaming. One of the elephants came in contact with a live electric wire.
Local farmers had installed electric wire fencing around their agricultural fields to protect their crops. Forest officials had previously chased the elephants away. Baripada Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) A Umamahes visited the spot, and a case was registered concerning the elephant's death. No arrests have been made. The elephant's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
