Artificial intelligence and traditional aid are providing substantial support to Nigerian farmers like Salihu Ali, who face the constant threat of floods intensified by climate change. Ali received a warning in 2022 and financial aid to prepare his Adamawa state farm.

This exertion involved harvesting maize early and relocating important supplies to higher ground. The pilot project, conducted by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Google.org, employed AI to forecast floods, enabling timely preparations for around 1,450 families.

Bolstered by a $4.6 million grant from Google, the program now aims to assist 7,500 people in flood-prone areas using data-driven insights from Google's Flood Hub. The integration of satellite data and weather forecasts has proven crucial in minimizing damage and ensuring food security.
