Kenya faced its second major blackout within a week on Friday, although power was restored to some areas after a few hours, according to the national distributor Kenya Power.
The company has not provided a reason for the outage, which impacted regions throughout East Africa's largest economy. This incident follows another hours-long blackout that occurred last Friday.
Kenya Power announced that power was reinstated in the North Rift, Central Rift, Western, Nairobi, and Mount Kenya areas several hours after the outage was confirmed. In a statement, the company apologized for the inconvenience caused and requested patience from their customers as efforts continue to restore normal service in the remaining affected regions. The country has experienced multiple blackouts over the past year, including one that left Nairobi's main airport in darkness. Authorities have yet to explain the root causes of these disruptions.
