Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched his party's election campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, promising the restoration of statehood with assistance from INDIA bloc partners.

Gandhi expressed disappointment over the BJP's unwillingness to restore statehood before assembly elections. He emphasized that the INDIA alliance would ensure statehood's return regardless of BJP's stance, applying necessary pressure on the government.

Addressing a rally in Sangaldan, Banihal constituency, he highlighted the upcoming three-phased assembly elections starting September 18. Congress candidate Vikar Rasool Wani, a former minister, faces challenges from National Conference's Sajad Shaheen and BJP's Saleem Bhat.
