At least 22 people have died and two others are missing after incessant rainfall and landslides ravaged Tripura, officials stated.

Approximately 65,400 people have sought refuge in 450 relief camps across the state after their homes were damaged by the ongoing downpour, authorities reported.

Among the deceased, ten were buried under rubble in Ashwani Tripura Para and Debipur in Santirbazar, according to a Facebook post by Chief Minister Manik Saha. The state government has pledged Rs 4 lakh in financial assistance to each victim's family.

Brijesh Pandey, Secretary of the Revenue Department, stated earlier that 12 individuals had perished due to severe rainfall in the northeastern state. He mentioned that preliminary reports indicate extensive damage to infrastructure, agriculture, houses, and livestock.

With around 17 lakh people affected, landslides have been reported at 2,032 locations, out of which 1,789 have been cleared. Restoration efforts continue in other areas.

The Centre has dispatched two helicopters to evacuate stranded residents in Gomati and South Tripura districts. Assam Rifles reported that over 750 people have been rescued, with four rescue columns active across the state.

The IMD predicts more heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tripura on Thursday and Friday, leading to the closure of all educational institutions on Friday.
