NDRF teams were deployed on Friday in Jharkhand's capital Ranchi and Deoghar to rescue residents stranded in low-lying areas due to incessant rains, officials confirmed.

The rescue operations are concentrated in low-lying neighbourhoods, including New Bandhgari locality in the Sadar police station area of Ranchi, according to an NDRF official. 'Our team, led by Deputy Commandant Vinay Kumar, has successfully rescued around 40 people from these areas so far,' stated NDRF's Brajesh Kumar Singh.

A senior state official noted that with Ranchi experiencing 90 mm of rainfall, all districts remain on high alert. Schools up to Class 12 have been closed following a government notification.

India Meteorological Department, Ranchi in-charge Abhishek Anand reported, 'The low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand has intensified into a depression, now centered over north Jharkhand.' The IMD has issued a 'red alert' for extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in seven districts, and an 'orange alert' for four districts.
