The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a red alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across multiple states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, and Maharashtra in the coming days. The alert follows the intensification of a weather depression in northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining east Rajasthan into a deep depression.

According to the IMD's report, the deep depression was centered about 70 km south-southeast of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, as of 11:30 pm on August 25. This system is expected to proceed west-southwest, affecting South Rajasthan and Gujarat before reaching Saurashtra, Kutch, and parts of Pakistan by August 29.

Another low-pressure area over Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal is also likely to intensify, affecting regions such as north Odisha and Jharkhand. The IMD has warned of strong winds, rough sea conditions, and potential localized flooding, advising fisherfolk, farmers, and residents in affected areas to take preventive measures.
