The Delhi High Court on Monday granted bail to Dheeraj Wadhwan, implicated in a multi-crore bank fraud case, on medical grounds. Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain heard the bail application and ruled in favor of Wadhwan, stating, "Petitioner falls under the category of sick person," thus setting aside the trial court's order.

On June 5, the Delhi High Court requested a status report on the bail plea, initially dismissed by the trial court. Senior advocates Amit Desai and Siddharth Agrawal represented Wadhwan, while Advocate Anupam S Sharma opposed on behalf of the CBI. Wadhwan's bail plea was withdrawn on May 17 and had been dismissed twice.

Special Judge A K Sarpal of the Rouse Avenue court had dismissed Wadhwan's bail application on May 10. The Supreme Court had directed his arrest after May 11. The CBI was instructed to produce him before the court. Post surgery and home treatment, the apex court had set aside an order granting statutory bail, noting procedural errors by lower courts.
