Devastating Wayanad Landslides Claim 93 Lives
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reported a tragic landslide in Wayanad district resulting in 93 deaths and 128 injuries. Several bodies, including parts, were recovered. The disaster struck early morning, and rehabilitation camps have been set up for those affected.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Tuesday that 93 people lost their lives and approximately 128 were injured due to massive landslides in Wayanad district. The incident left a trail of devastation and heartache.
Vijayan confirmed that 34 of the deceased have been identified, and 18 bodies have been returned to families. Sixteen bodies were retrieved from the Chaliyar river at Pothukal village, with additional body parts discovered during the ongoing search and rescue operations.
The Chief Minister stated that the first landslide occurred at around 2 am, followed by a second one at approximately 4:30 am, trapping hundreds in the wreckage and sweeping many away. The landslides had a devastating impact as villagers were asleep and caught off-guard. Vijayan added that 45 camps have been established in the district, providing shelter to approximately 3,069 displaced individuals.
