Over 700 villages in Uttar Pradesh are reeling from severe floods as river levels continue to surge, resulting in the tragic loss of 11 lives within a 24-hour period. State officials confirmed these figures on Friday evening.

The state recorded an average of 7.5 mm of rainfall during this period. Among the casualties, six people drowned, while lightning and snakebite accounted for two deaths each. One individual succumbed in a flood-related incident, according to the relief department.

Floods have inundated 732 villages across 17 districts, with urban areas like Shahjahanpur and Bareilly also severely affected. Traffic disruption was notable on the Lucknow-Bareilly highway in Shahjahanpur due to road submersion. Similar issues were reported in Bareilly.

State Relief Commissioner Naveen Kumar said, "Teams of the NDRF and SDRF are coordinating with local authorities to address flood-related issues. Flood relief camps have been established for the affected population."
