Heavy rain lashed several areas of Odisha since August 6, with over 100 mm of rainfall recorded in at least 25 places, the IMD reported on Wednesday.

According to the India Meteorological Department's Bhubaneswar center, Banki in Cuttack district and Bhapur in Nayagarh district experienced the heaviest rainfall, recording 317 mm and 210 mm respectively, in the last 24 hours till 8:30 AM Wednesday.

Additional 17 places, including Begunia and Bolagarh in Khurda district, Hindol in Dhenkanal, Binika and Birmaharajpur in Sonepur, Dabugaon and Tentulikhunti in Nabarangpur, and Dharamgarh, Kesingha, and Barla in Kalahandi district, reported rainfall ranging from 121 to 196 mm during the same period.

Besides this, another 10 places in Odisha received between 95.4 and 115 mm of downpour.

Due to the heavy rainfall, water logging incidents were reported from various low-lying areas. At least 30 villages in Boudh district remained isolated as water flowed above the Samaleswari Nallah bridge in the Kantamal area.

Similarly, some villages in the Birmaharajpur block of Sonepur district were cut off from their block headquarters due to the overflow of the Ghungi Nallah, sources said.
