In response to ongoing and heavy rainfall, authorities in Himachal Pradesh's Karsog Sub-Division have announced the closure of all schools, colleges, anganwadi centers, and vocational institutes for Wednesday.

According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Karsog, continuous rainfall since last night has resulted in road blockages and frequent landslides. Furthermore, a forecast predicts heavy rainfall for the entire day on August 7, 2024. Under such circumstances, the movement of staff, students, and trainees is deemed unsafe and needs to be restricted for their safety.

To ensure the safety and security of students and staff, the order has been issued under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, mandating the closure of all governmental and private educational institutions in Karsog Sub-Division on August 7, 2024. Compliance with this order is mandatory, emphasized the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. This decision follows an orange alert in Himachal Pradesh, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued rainfall.

Data from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) reveal that 85 roads, including two National Highways, have been shut due to landslides and excessive rain. Additionally, 116 electricity supply schemes and 65 water supply schemes have been disrupted in the state.

A catastrophic cloudburst in the Lahaul and Spiti districts occurred on August 1. As heavy rain continues to batter Shimla and other parts of Himachal Pradesh, authorities urge residents and tourists to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather advisories.
