The election of Donald Trump could potentially open new avenues for dialogue between the United States and Russia, according to Gennady Gatilov, Russia's ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva. However, he noted that the primary objective of Washington continues to be the containment of Moscow's influence.
Despite domestic political changes, the US remains committed to its strategy of containing Russian interests, Gatilov highlighted to reporters on Thursday. He emphasized that a mere change in administration might not significantly alter this stance.
Nevertheless, Gatilov expressed hope that the Trump administration could at least facilitate a dialogue between the two nations, marking a significant shift that hasn't been possible in recent years.
