The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has successfully apprehended two individuals in Nandyal district for illegal involvement in the trading of highly protected marine life.

The operation, carried out by the DRI's Hyderabad Zonal Unit on December 30, 2024, saw the confiscation of 10 kg of dead black corals, 200 grams of dead soft corals, and six trapezium horse conches. These corals, listed under Schedule-I and Schedule-II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, are among the most legally protected marine species.

Acting on intelligence, another 6.6 kg of black corals were seized in Ongole, pointing to a wider network behind this illegal trade. Despite local myths attributing powers to these corals, authorities emphasize their critical role in marine ecosystems.
