Tensions Mount: Ecuadorean Leadership in Turmoil
Ecuadorean President Daniel Noboa has named Planning Minister Sariha Moya as interim vice-president amid ongoing tensions with the current Vice President Veronica Abad, who was suspended but later reinstated following a legal battle. This move is part of a series of confrontations between Noboa and Abad.

Ecuador's political sphere is witnessing escalating tensions as President Daniel Noboa appoints Sariha Moya, the Planning Minister, as interim vice-president. This decision follows persistent disputes with current Vice President Veronica Abad, who was temporarily sidelined due to disciplinary issues but reinstated by a court decision.
The labor ministry had suspended Abad in November, citing her refusal to travel to Turkey amid Gaza conflict concerns. Although a court overturned her suspension, Abad continued to face political challenges as Noboa ordered her to serve as a counselor in Turkey.
Appointed interim until January 22, Moya will fill in until Abad's potential arrival in Turkey, underscoring the ongoing power struggle. President Noboa, pursuing re-election, has maneuvered to avoid giving Abad brief control of the presidency, adding layers to their contentious dynamic.
