The political atmosphere in Jharkhand has become charged with controversy as the BJP accuses Chief Minister Hemant Soren of misrepresenting his age in an election affidavit. The complaint, filed with the Election Commission, alleges discrepancies between Soren's stated age from the 2019 elections and the upcoming 2024 assembly polls.
According to BJP's Barhait candidate, Gamliyel Hembrom, Soren listed his age as 42 in 2019 and 49 for the 2024 polls, raising questions on the improbability of a seven-year increase within five years. This has led to demands for Soren's nomination to be annulled.
Amidst these developments, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal criticized the BJP's actions as distractions from critical public issues. Meanwhile, he remains confident that the JMM-led alliance will retain its governance in the state. The assembly elections are scheduled for November, with results to be announced on the 23rd.
